What Migoy keeps, in plain words.

Is my chat saved? What happens to the number I gave? Find your answer below.

Last updated October 8, 2026

The short version

  • You can ask without an account.
  • We don't save your chat as a transcript.
  • The phone or Facebook in a tip is the business's. It shows in chat only after a person approves the tip.
  • Contact details in a claim or message are only used to check it and reply to you.
  • We don't sell your data or send marketing email.

When I chat

You don't need an account, and we don't save your chat as a transcript.

  • Your conversation shows only on your screen. It clears when you refresh or close the page. A short memory of the last few questions (so follow-ups make sense) stays in that browser tab until you close it.
  • Each question is sent to our server to find the answer. We don't store the question. We keep your latest answers in memory for about 10 minutes, so a dropped connection can show them again without using up a question.
  • AI services can help find relevant notes or write an answer. Meaning-based search sends Google your question and brief follow-up context, even when the answer comes directly from our notes. Answer writing can also send the town and relevant notes (see Who else handles data). Please don't type private details like ID numbers or health records.
  • We keep counts of common topics: the town, whether an answer was found, and which note was used. Never the question, and never who asked.
  • We count how often a listing is shown each day. Just the listing and the number, nothing about you.
  • If you tap 👍 or 👎, we save that, the reason you picked or typed, and which notes were used. A 👎 or a flag also saves the first part of the answer (not your question) so a person can check it.
  • To keep chat free and fair, we count questions per hour. Your internet address is stored only as a scrambled code. If we can't see the address, we use a scrambled code from your browser type and language instead.

When I share a tip or claim

A person checks every tip and claim. Only a tip's business details can show in chat, and only after approval.

Tips about a business or service

  • We save what you type: the business name, place, barangay, hours, description, job details if it's a job post, and the business's phone or Facebook.
  • After a person approves the tip, chat shows those details, including the phone or Facebook, so residents can reach the business. Only enter a number that belongs to the business.
  • Your display name is optional. If you add one, chat can show “Local helper · your name”. Leave it blank to stay anonymous.
  • If you leave an email or link your Research account for tip credit, we keep it to give you that credit. It never shows in chat.
  • Rejected or unpublished tips never show in chat.

Claims (“This is my business”)

  • We save your name, how to reach you, the business name, the place, and any proof you add. We use it only to check the claim and reply to you. It is never shown in chat.

Paying for Boost

  • When you pay by GCash or bank, we record your name, how to reach you, the amount, and the payment reference number so we can match your payment. Only the Migoy team sees payments.

Who sees tips and claims: the Migoy team, and the LGU staff for that town if the town has a team on Migoy. To stop spam, each form counts sends with a scrambled code of your internet address, like chat does.

When I make a Research account

We use your email and name only for your account. No newsletters.

  • We save your email, your name (optional), and your password in a scrambled form we can't read back.
  • You can ask up to 25 questions an hour (without an account it's 12). Optional Research Plus is 50 an hour after you request and pay — not auto-charged. We don't send any email right now.
  • A sign-in cookie keeps you signed in for up to 7 days. Sign out anytime on the Research page.
  • Your hourly limit is counted on your account, not your internet address.

For LGU staff

Staff accounts are separate from residents, and we keep a record of each review decision.

  • A staff account stores your name, email, role, your LGU and its towns, and your password in a scrambled form we can't read back.
  • Each approve, reject, or unpublish is saved with your name, email, and the time, so your team can see who decided what.
  • When an owner removes someone from the team, that person can no longer sign in. Their past decisions stay in the record.
  • Staff can see tips, claims, and feedback for their own towns, including the contact details people gave. Owners and admins also see contact messages for their towns. Please use them only to check and reply.
  • A staff sign-in cookie keeps you signed in for up to 7 days.

Cookies

Only sign-in cookies. No ads, no tracking.

  • Migoy sets a cookie only when you sign in: one for Research accounts and one for LGU staff. Each one holds who you are, is signed so it can't be changed, and ends when you sign out or after 7 days.
  • Your browser also remembers the town you picked, and the app may save pages for offline use. Staff pages and answers are never saved this way.
  • We don't use advertising or analytics trackers.

Who else handles data

A few service providers help run Migoy. We don't sell your data to anyone.

  • AI services: help search notes and write some answers. Google processes questions and published notes for meaning-based search. An answer provider can receive the question, the town, and relevant notes. We don't attach your account profile. Each provider keeps data under its own policy. Under Google's free-tier terms, submitted content may be used to improve its products. See Google's API data-use terms.
  • Cloudflare: delivers the site securely, so it handles your internet address. It may also store a backup of the published local notes, which includes approved listing details.
  • Database host: stores accounts, tips, claims, messages, and the counts above.
  • Email sending service: used only if Research confirmation emails are turned on.

How long we keep things

Chat goes away when you close the page. Most other records stay until we delete them.

  • Your conversation: until you refresh or close the page.
  • Saved answers for dropped connections: about 10 minutes.
  • Confirmation links: 24 hours.
  • Sign-in cookies: until you sign out, or 7 days at most.
  • Accounts, tips, claims, messages, payments, feedback, and topic counts: until we delete them. Ask us anytime.
  • Hourly question counters: the count starts over every hour, and the scrambled codes are cleared after about a day.

Your rights

You can ask to see, fix, or delete your data.

Under the Philippine Data Privacy Act of 2012 (RA 10173), you can:

  • See the personal data we have about you.
  • Fix anything wrong.
  • Delete your data, or close your Research account.
  • Object to how we use it.
  • Complain to the National Privacy Commission if you think we got it wrong.

There's no button for this in the app yet. Ask us through the contact form and we'll handle it.
